The NES Classic Edition remains one of the hottest ticket items this holiday season. In addition to being seeped in nostalgia, the NES CE provides an incredible amount of bang for the buck. Priced at just $60, the device comes jam-packed with 30 classic old-school Nintendo games. And when we say classic, we mean it. Pre-loaded with games like Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid, Excitebike, Super Contra and Tecmo Bowl, there’s a reason why folks who grew up in an era when the NES was the console are more than happy to spend top dollar for the system on places like eBay.
Now if you’re one of the lucky people who managed to get your hands on the NES Classic Edition, there are a few nuggets of information you should be aware of courtesy of CNET.
First and foremost, those old cheat codes you remember from back in the day still work. So if you want to skip levels on any of the Super Mario titles or enjoy much-needed extra lives on Contra, you’re in luck. We’ll have an extensive list of cheat codes soon, but for now, here are two of our favorites.
- Tecmo Bowl: If you want an invisible team, type in 397BFFA5
- Super C: Need extra lives? Make sure to press this sequence of buttons in order: RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, UP, A, B, START
On a different front, one disappointing aspect of the NES Classic Edition is that it only ships with one controller. While not a problem with single-player games, it’s a lot more fun playing Tecmo Bowl with your friends than it is to play against the computer. The NES CE does, however, support multiple controllers but you’ll have to purchase those separately.
