Niantic confirmed that Ditto is finally available in Pokemon Go, something we already knew since various players found him already. But while Niantic’s announcement was mostly focused on Ditto’s appearance, some players may not be aware of another neat gem: The Nearby feature you’ve been waiting for is expanding to more markets.

This past summer when the game was at the height of its popularity, Niantic removed the Nearby tracking feature, which tells you which monsters are close by. Niantic claimed it had good reasons to do it even if it angered fans, but promised to fix it and bring it back.
The company started testing the new Nearby feature in limited markets, and recently increased the number of locations where players get to use the tracking feature again. Niantic on Tuesday revealed on its blog that it expanded the new feature once again.
“After reviewing your feedback, we have made some changes to the Nearby feature we were originally testing in San Francisco, California,” Niantic said. “We have changed the feature to only show the Nearby feature if a PokéStop is close to your location. In addition, we have also made changes to the way Sightings now works.”
The Nearby and the Sightings functionalities are now available to players in Australia, Canada, and the US, as follows:
- USA: All states west of the Mississippi River (except Hawaii and Alaska)
- Canada: BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the western half of Ontario
- Australia: All states and territories
