In a letter sent to Congress today, FBI Director James Comey seems to suggest that the FBI will be reopening its investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server. This is due to the FBI “being made aware” of emails that “may be pertinent” to its investigation.

In his letter sent to the Congressional oversight committee, Comey said: “In connection with an unrelated case, the FBI has learned of the existence of emails that appear to be pertinent to the investigation. I am writing to inform you that the investigative team briefed me on this yesterday, and I agreed that the FBI should take appropriate investigative steps designed to allow investigators to review these emails to determine whether they contain classified information, as well as to assess their importance to our investigation.”

He continued that “Although the FBI cannot yet assess whether or not this material may be significant, and I cannot predict how long it will take us to complete this additional work, I believe it is important to update your Committees.”

The FBI’s official investigation into Clinton’s email server closed earlier this year with no recommendation to prosecute. However, the FBI did find evidence of misdoings, including the transmission of classified emails on a private email server.

Naturally, Donald Trump has already commented on the incident. As ABC News reports, Trump addressed the matter at a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire:

“I need to open with a very critical breaking news announcement,” Trump said to cheers that at times drowned out his remarks. “The FBI has just sent a letter to Congress informing them that they have discovered new emails pertaining to the former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s investigation.”

“I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and DOJ are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake they made,” said Trump, who had recently been sounding the alarm on the campaign trail to “investigate the investigation” into Clinton’s server.
