Independence Day is one of the best holidays of the year for so many reasons. You get the day off from work to enjoy the summer weather with friends and family, and the biggest July 4th tradition involve wonderful things like beaches, food and beer. Oh, and explosions. We certainly can’t forget about explosions.

Ever since July 4th became July 4th, Americans have celebrated with fireworks. The tradition goes all the way back to the very first July 4th, when John Adams wrote in a letter that the day of our nation’s independence should be celebrated with “pomp and parade, with shews, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more.” That’s right… the country’s founding father’s knew how to party.

Of course, in the age of the internet it only makes sense to modify the tradition ever so slightly so that it keeps up with the times. And what do people in this day and age love most? Watching fail videos on YouTube.

Fireworks are always obviously intended to be a spectacle. But as amazing as big, beautiful explosions in the sky are on their own, they’re made infinitely more entertaining when you mix in stupid people doing stupid things. I mean, when is that not the case?

With the collection of videos below, we want to accomplish two things. First, they really couldn’t be any more entertaining. But beyond that, let these videos serve as a reminder tonight as you go out to enjoy the holiday: Things that explode are dangerous, so please be careful.

With that out of the way, you’ll find a bunch of videos embedded below that are packed full of fireworks fails from over the years. Enjoy, and note that many of them are NSFW due to language, childishness, danger and general stupidity.
