We’ve known for a while that Apple has been eager to produce original content for its Apple TV set-top box and now it looks like it’s green lighted its first official series. The New York Times reports that the show will be an unscripted series about… smartphone apps.

Wait, seriously?

Per the Times, Apple is “working with the entertainer Will.i.am and two veteran TV executives, Ben Silverman and Howard T. Owens, on a new show that will spotlight the app economy.”

There aren’t a lot of details about the show’s production, although Apple’s Eddy Cue tells the Times that it will revolve around “the great ideas that people had to build things and create things.” It’s also not clear at this point if Will.i.am will actually be a host on the show or if he’ll just be a producer.

(Given Will.i.am’s own foray into the tech world, however, we have a hard time imagining Apple letting him use the show to promote his own smartband.)
