Starting today, PS4 and PC owners can now join Xbox One players in The Division open beta. In case you haven’t heard, The Division is a new third-person shooter/RPG hybrid set in a post-apocalyptic New York City, ravaged by a terrible disease that was spread through banknotes on Black Friday.
The game doesn’t launch until March 8th, but the open beta this weekend gives everyone a chance to try the game out a few weeks early. And that’s exactly what we’ll be doing in the live stream that will kick off around 5:30 p.m. ET.
If you don’t want to waste time downloading a 26GB file to play a game you might not like, this will be a good opportunity to see if The Division is up your alley. If so, you have until (at least) the end of the day Sunday to download and start playing. If not, I just saved you somewhere between an hour or so and like half a day, depending on your Internet connection.
If you want to know exactly what the open beta involves, you can click on that big bold link above, but it’s basically an extension of the closed beta from earlier this year. There are a couple of story missions, a bunch side missions, a few collectables scattered around the environment and, of course, the Dark Zone.
The Dark Zone is where players can either team up or do battle with other players, fighting over gear that can’t be found in the campaign. It’s where I plan to spend a vast majority of my time this weekend.
I’m not sure how long I’ll be playing, but if you want to check out at least an hour or so of The Division, tune in below at around 5:30 eastern.
UPDATE: Here’s the full VOD of the stream from Friday night:
