This app lets you play N64, PS1 and GBA games on your iPhone without a jailbreak

iPhone Emulator N64 PS1 NewGamepad

Emulating console and handheld games has been one of the primary reasons to jailbreak an iPhone for years, but the release of NewGamepad could bring about a whole new age of smartphone emulation. Unlike most other emulators, NewGamepad is free, it doesn’t require a jailbreak, and it’s one of the first non-jailbreak emulators to include N64 and PS1 emulation.

DON’T MISS: Assassin’s Creed is taking 2016 off, which is exactly what the series needs

If you want to try NewGamepad for yourself, just visit the iEmulators website on your iPhone, tap on the big controller graphic near the bottom of the page and then click Install on the pop-up that appears. Once the app is installed, you’ll need to navigate through Settings > General > Device Management and click Trust in order to use the app.

Fair warning: this is uncertified software, so as with any software available outside of the App Store, you are taking a calculated risk by downloading it.

If you need any help with the installation, be sure to watch this video:

If you decide to install NewGamepad, you’ll find an incredibly impressive library within. PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, NES, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, PSP, MAME and more are all represented, with well over 7,000 games in tow.

It’s also worth noting that the app is primarily in Chinese, but you can still search for the English name of a game in order to find it inside the app. Once you find the game, make sure the box art is in English — that’s how you’ll know you’re downloading the English version of the game. As long as you own an iPhone 5s or above, you should be able to emulate most anything available on the app.
