John Boyega, the actor who plays stormtrooper FN-2187 in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, revealed in an interview that the next episode of Star Wars will be even darker, and that his role will be much more physical. If you have not seen Episode VII yet, be warned, there are some huge spoilers ahead.
Talking to Vogue ahead of the BAFTA awards, Boyega revealed that he’s thrilled he can talk about what happens in The Force Awakens, after keeping secrets for so long.
“Yes, at last! Han Solo dies, OK?” he said. “He dies. Phew. It feels good. But now, we just starting work on Star Wars VIII, the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again.”
Boyega then said he agrees with Daisy Ridley (who plays Rey) that the script for the upcoming episode is “great.” It’s “much darker,” he said, “but we’re very excited.”
Disney already confirmed that pretty much every character from Episode VII is returning to Episode VIII, which means Harrison Ford will reprise his Han Solo role for at least one more episode, even if it means he’ll only make appearances in flashback scenes. On another note, we now know that one of these eight actors will go on to play a young Han Solo in upcoming Star Wars films.
Boyega did not reveal any other details about the darker themes Star Wars: Episode VIII. He did say that his role will be a lot more physical and that he might need to go to the gym more often to prepare. That’s only good news for fans. After all, Finn seems to be badly wounded at the end of The Force Awakens.
