The 4th of July is almost upon us and in case your non-American friends don’t exactly understand why it’s so important to you, you might as well tell them that it stands for “the day we celebrate our independence through alcoholism, concussive explosions, and by scaring the s**t out of our pets.”

To some of The Oatmeal’s fans, this might sound very much like something he’d write in one of his hilarious comics – and that’s because he just released a new sketch titled America explained to non-Americans.

In it, he also mocks several other American icons including the Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle, Thanksgiving Turkey, Uncle Sam, Confederate flag, amendments, hot dogs, hamburgers and French fries.

Since the Confederate flag was widely featured in the press following the Charleston shootings, we’ll mention The Oatmeal’s take on it. According to him, the flag is “a sticker you put on the back of your pickup truck to announce that you intend to marry your sister. Think of it like a white trash ‘Save the Date’ card.”

Below you can see three of his cartoons and funny explanations, with the entire post available below at the source link.
