Jon Stewart has been a fixture of American television ever since he took over as host of The Daily Show back in 1999. YouTube user Billy Chasen has created a fantastic timelapse video of Stewart’s entire 17-career at The Daily Show that spanned four different presidential campaigns, two wars, two recessions and the transformation of Apple from a near-dead computer company into a global powerhouse.

The video uses split-second stills of Stewart throughout his career while covering all sorts of stories, from presidential races to the 9/11 terrorist attacks to the Iraq war to the 2008 financial crisis. Through it all, Stewart’s hair slowly grows thinner and more gray, although he always maintains his youthful energy.

The timelapse is especially fun because whenever you pause it, you’re likely to catch Stewart making a goofy face. The most jarring part comes when John Oliver suddenly takes over for Stewart for an extended period of time, although that quickly passes and Stewart returns to take his place as the show’s host.
