My dream of having Google take over my iPhone is quickly becoming a reality. Apple’s smartphones are sleek and its mobile platform is the best in the business, thanks largely to superior third-party apps that are abundantly available. As it turns out, Google’s iOS apps are among the best in the App Store, and I recently wrote about the fact that Google’s iPhone apps are better than Apple’s own iOS apps across the board.

But now that Google has dominated my iPhone, there’s a new Apple device I need Google to take over as soon as possible.

The Apple Watch is a phenomenal new device that Apple finally launched just last month. Sure there’s plenty of room for improvement with this v1 smartwatch, but the overall experience is impressive and it’s miles beyond any rival devices, including those powered by Google’s Android Wear platform.

One of the weakest parts of the Apple Watch experience is, without question, the third-party apps. It’s beyond apparent that developers need more time with the device before they figure out how to craft apps that work well and offer features that are truly useful. And the one developer I expect to shine brighter than most of the rest is Google.

The company just released its first Watch app, which came packed in an update to the Google News & Weather app for the iPhone and iPad. Right now, it’s not much better than any other Watch apps I’ve used, and I’ll be discussing the state of third-party Apple Watch apps plenty in some upcoming coverage.

But to be honest, Apple’s own Watch apps aren’t that great either, so the bar hasn’t been set very high. This is why I can’t wait to see how Google’s apps progress over time, and why I can’t wait to have Google take over my Watch, just as it took over my iPhone.
