Five months after the release of the mobile Office suite for iOS, Microsoft is finally bringing Word, Excel and PowerPoint to its own Windows Phone users. On Monday, Jared Spataro, general manager for the Office marketing team, took to the Office Blogs to announce that the Office Universal apps preview for Windows 10 would hit phones by the end of the month.

“Our Office Universal apps are designed for on-the-go productivity. They’re touch-first, built for tablets and phones, and optimized for viewing, quick edits, notes and mark-up,” says Spataro.

“On a phone, the Universal apps adapt to the smaller form factor. Commands and controls are moved to the bottom of the screen so you can triage your work and make edits one-handed with your thumb.”

Here’s the first screenshot showing off how the software will adapt to the phone:

It’s been a long wait for Windows Phone users, but it sounds like the Universal apps might be the best way to experience Office once Windows 10 launches this summer.
