The HTC One M9 is launching on Friday and many reviewers have once again expressed disappointment with the device’s camera, which has long been the weakest aspect of HTC’s flagship phones. However, Phandroid informs us that the One M9 has just received a new software update and it’s already bringing massive and much needed improvements to the device’s camera.

As you can see in the picture on the right that was taken with the software update, the One M9 now snaps clearer pictures that have stronger contrast and are much more detailed:

Every other picture that Phandroid snapped showed similar improvements, regardless of whether it was taken indoors or outdoors. Unfortunately, the website hasn’t snapped any pics in low-light settings yet so we have no idea how much the update improves that aspect of the camera.

“Regardless of these minor inconsistencies, I think it’s fairly obvious to tell that this M9 camera update boasts huge improvements,” Phandroid writes. “I wouldn’t say that this catapults the M9’s camera from terrible to outrageously awesome, but those who decided against the M9 primarily due to the camera should consider giving it a second look.”
