The iPhone and iPad have awesome photo-taking and video-recording capabilities and directors have used them to record not only a couple of Apple commercials, but also an entire surprise hit indie movie. Further proving that Apple’s iOS devices are dependable tools for movie-making is Modern Family’s latest gimmick: An entire episode was shot using almost only the iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2, The New York Times reports. That’s the sort of free publicity that Samsung’s billions can’t always get.

The Modern Family episode shot using Apple gadgets and applications — namely the company’s FaceTime and iMessage apps — will air on Thursday, February 26th, on ABC. To make it feel real, the show’s creators shot everything at the same time, using three sets rolling at the same time.
“Everything was shot on the iPhone 6 or new iPads,” Mr. Levitan explained to the Times. “With one or two small scenes shot using MacBook Pros.”
This isn’t the first time Apple has gotten free publicity for its latest devices, since Apple Pay is being actively advertised by financial institutions alongside both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.
