From the outside, it’s easy to forget that it takes the combined effort of tens or even hundreds of thousands of people to conceptualize, create, deliver and market the gadgets we rely on every day. From toasters to televisions and everything in between, these devices would never come to be without everything that goes on behind the scenes. Since Apple is one of the more secretive companies out there, it’s particularly intriguing when we get a peek behind the Cupertino curtain to see what it’s like working there.

We’ve gotten a few peeks behind Apple’s curtain before, but now tons of new insights from Apple insiders have been made available.

Business Insider often combs Quora for posts made by Apple employees, and now the site has widened its scope to include Glassdoor as well. In this latest post, the blog has aggregated comments made in more than 20 posts on either site, and they give us some great insights from anonymous current and former Apple employees on what it’s like to work for the biggest company in consumer tech.

“We work with geniuses – in every department, we create innovative products that thrill our customers and create new product categories – who else can say that?” one employee boasted. But he or she also noted that the work/life balance at Apple is a huge problem.

“ZERO ZERO ZERO work/life balance,” the anonymous employee wrote. “Execs have been saying for YEARS that they understand and will make it better. But in actuality, it gets worse every year! It is obviously top management LIP SERVICE because if they meant it, they could fix it tomorrow. They have hundreds of BILLIONS in the bank. If they REALLY cared about employee work/life balance, they could bring aboard the right number of folks to make that issue dissolve. Sick of hearing the lies. Just don’t lie about wanting to fix it, when they clearly DON’T care.”

A common theme in many of the comments though, is that people at Apple really respect their colleagues and regard them quite highly. One former employee said there is “an amazing sense of belonging and community” at Apple. Another added that “where ever [sic] you go you will gain a family.”
