How is such a list calculated, you ask? Glassdoor writes that it’s “determined by weighting three factors equally: earning potential (average annual base salary), career opportunities rating, and number of job openings.” So jobs that are plentiful, pay well and offer the most opportunities for advancement are rated the highest — we find that hard to argue with.

The best job, according to Glassdoor, is a physician assistant, which offers an average base salary of $111,376 and which now has 45,484 job openings. Other high-ranking jobs include software engineer ($98,074 average base salary, 104,828 job openings); business development manager ($94,907 average base salary, 11,616 job openings); human resources manager ($96,443 average base salary, 8,073 job openings); and finance manager ($122,865 average base salary, 9,728 job openings).
