Why Is Comcast So Bad

We’ve mentioned this before but there’s really no good reason to rent your modem from your cable company. This is especially true if your cable company is Comcast, which has traditionally charged more for modem rentals than any other major cable company. Ars Technica reports that the Pride of Philadelphia is at it again and has decided to once again raise its modem rental fees up from $8 to $10 per month.

FROM EARLIER: Comcast ends 2014 with one last epic customer service call debacle

After reading a report on Reddit about a 25% modem fee increase, Ars asked its readers to check their own bills to see if their modem rental costs had also increased. And sure enough, it seems that many of them reported getting hit with price hikes as early as this past October, which suggests the company is rolling the new $10 modem fees out gradually.

When one customer called Comcast to complain about the increase, a representative told him that “we understand that no one nowadays wants to see prices increase in our monthly expenses but we continue to add value by making technology and service improvements.”

Of course, unexpected price increases are part of The Comcast Way and are one reason consumers continually rate it as one of America’s most hated companies in customer satisfaction surveys. Earlier this week we brought you the story of a man who saw his bill increase after three months despite the fact that he kept a recording of a Comcast customer service rep telling him very clearly that his bills wouldn’t increase for a full year. When he played the recording to them, Comcast still refused to give him his lower rate back.

With such awesome pricing policies, it’s safe to say that 2015 will be even more Comcastic for subscribers than 2014. Happy New Year, everyone!
