It seems that every generation of new smartphones tries to create the lightest, thinnest devices we’ve ever seen. That said, there comes a point where it makes no sense to try to make smartphones any thinner and it looks like we might have finally reached that tipping point with the new Oppo R5 Android phone that was unveiled earlier this year by little-known Chinese OEM Oppo.
Business Insider has posted some pictures of the Oppo R5 that show the device’s insanely thin 4.85-millimeter frame that is more than 2 millimeters thinner than the iPhone 6. This is officially so thin that you can’t even fit a headphone jack on it — instead, you have to plug in your headphones via a USB port adapter.
While this is a pretty impressive feat of engineering, we do have to question whether making a phone this thin is really even desired. After all, if the iPhone 6 has bending problems because it’s so thin, we wouldn’t want to see what would happen to a 4.85-millimeter iPhone model.
