With just over a month left in 2014, the Xbox One might finally be gaining ground on the PlayStation 4. For nine months straight, Sony dominated Microsoft in the console market, due to a combination of too many factors to list. But Microsoft never gave up.

OUR TAKE: One year later: The state of PS4 and Xbox One

Speaking with the Financial Post, Microsoft Studios VP Mike Nichols discussed how Microsoft has been turning things around in order to give its console a chance to retake the number one spot.

“If you step back and look at the Xbox One, it’s still very early in the console’s life cycle,” Nichols said in response to a question about how important the holiday lineup is to the success of the console.

“The sales of the Xbox One even outpaced Xbox 360 in terms of life cycle. Of course we look forward to doing better and better and we think we’re set up to have one of the best holidays we’ve ever had with Xbox given all the great games we’ve released. There’s Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2.”

Nichols then brought up the Xbox One Assassin’s Creed Bundle, which is undoubtedly one of the best deals of the year at just $350. With its aggressively-priced bundles and a solid lineup that includes Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Nichols thinks that the Xbox One is primed to be the winner of the 2014 holiday season.
