Well here’s some late-Friday Apple news that has nothing to do with the iPhone 6 or the iWatch. Vanity Fair reports that Apple has hired famous industrial designer Marc Newson, who’s a longtime friend of Apple design boss Jony Ive and whose work has been commissioned “by Ford, Nike, and Qantas Airways, among others,” Vanity Fair says.

We don’t quite know what Newson will be working on at Apple, although the company did confirm that he will be working closely with Ive.

“Marc is without question one of the most influential designers of this generation,” Ive told Vanity Fair in a prepared statement. “He is extraordinarily talented. We are particularly excited to formalize our collaboration as we enjoy working together so much and have found our partnership so effective.”

Regardless, this is definitely an intriguing partnership and we’ll be interested to see what it produces.
