Google’s upcoming new version of Android is an absolutely gorgeous reimagining of the company’s mobile operating system. Dubbed “Material Design,” Google has employed a new design identity throughout the user interface that makes Android L far more beautiful and approachable than the OS has ever been in the past. While Apple has done a great job of flattening its iOS platform in an effort to modernize it, Google is taking a different approach, adding different levels to the UI that combine with new graphics to create a great experience.

The problem, of course, is that Android L won’t be available until sometime this fall and even then, there’s no telling when vendors will finally start updating their phones. Luckily, you don’t have to wait to get some of the awesome new elements from Android L on your current smartphone.

PhoneArena recently compiled a nice list of six apps you can download right now to get a taste of Android L. We’ve added a seventh, which is linked above, that will help you get Android L’s slick new notifications on your current handset.

Included on PhoneArena’s list is a full Android L theme that requires a custom ROM but skins your phone with Google’s new Material Design; Android L Launcher Theme, which is a toned down version but doesn’t require a ROM; and Android L LockScreen, which adds Android L’s new notification system to your lock screen.
