Although no one would say that working at Apple is a miserable, soul-sucking experience, the company doesn’t have the same reputation for being as fun to work at as Google. That said, Business Insider points us to some recent remarks from Apple observer John Gruber, who brings us word that Apple employees seem to be having more of a good time at their jobs than they’ve had in a while.

“I really got a sense talking to people at Apple last week at WWDC that they’re happy,” explained Gruber in a recent podcast. “Happy in a way they haven’t been. In fact, one friend literally said the words ‘it’s fun again,’ which i thought was pretty interesting.”

Gruber has more extensive connections to Apple than just about any other blogger around so when he says that the mood at Apple has changed for the better recently, it carries a good deal of weight.

Apple is a notoriously demanding company to work for but that doesn’t mean that its employees ought to be miserable with what they’re doing. Or as Gruber put it in his podcast, Apple employees now seem to have figured out how to balance “tackling interesting problems and having a good time doing it.”
