Galaxy S5 beats iPhone 5s and others in expert camera review

Galaxy S5 Vs iPhone 5s

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a Samsung smartphone? A giant phablet? A gorgeous screen? A plasticky look and feel? Whatever your answer might be, the camera on Samsung’s handsets likely isn’t near the top of the list for most people. With the Galaxy S5, however, that may change — according to a recent review from the photography experts at DxOMark, Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone is equipped with the best camera in the business.

The Galaxy S5 was recently subjected to DxOMark’s rigorous mobile image testing process and it came out at the top of the pile, tied for the No. 1 with the Sony Xperia Z2. With an overall score of 79, the Galaxy S5 beat out a number of camera phone leaders including the Nokia 808 PureView, the iPhone 5s and the Nokia Lumia 1020.

The testing process covered photos and video capture capabilities, and areas tested include exposure, contrast, color, texture, flash, artifacts, noise and auto focus.

DxOMark found that the Galaxy S5 camera really shines when it comes to exposure, color and white balance. Photos captured by Samsung’s flagship phone were also found to be nice and sharp, and there wasn’t much noise even in low-light conditions.

On the flip side of the coin, the camera’s auto-focus was found to be lacking when shooting in auto mode, and there is a “noticeable loss of details in low light conditions.”
