A diehard Mac fan explains why you should give the Surface Pro 3 a chance

MacBook Air Vs. Surface Pro 3

Microsoft has been positioning the Surface Pro 3 as a top rival for Apple’s MacBook lineup of laptops and now one Mac diehard is putting that claim to the test. SlashGear’s Vincent Nguyen, a self-described “unabashed Mac and iPad user,” has written up a review of the Surface Pro 3 in which he’s found a lot to like in Microsoft’s newest tablet-laptop hybrid.

Starting with the hardware, Nguyen praises the Surface Pro 3’s “sturdy, beautifully crisp magnesium alloy metal casing” that “puts most Windows notebook and tablet OEMs to shame.” He also gives a thumbs up to the Surface Pro 3’s kickstand that he said offered more flexibility than earlier Surface kickstands without sacrificing any of its sturdiness.

Nguyen is equally impressed that Microsoft has managed to make a full-fledged PC so thin and compact and said that its engineering team “has worked design magic in putting up to a Core i7 computer into a form-factor you might more realistically expect to pack a low-power ARM chip.” He also says that Microsoft’s TypeCover keyboard for the Surface Pro 3 is its best effort at creating a laptop-worthy click-in keyboard for a tablet yet, although it’s still not without its flaws.

The bottom line, says Nguyen, is that he’s “frankly astonished by how attached to the Surface Pro 3 I’ve become in the time I’ve been using it” and he would “have no qualms about replacing separate notebook and laptop with the Surface Pro 3″ if he were a Windows user and not a Mac user.
