Apple’s Xcode 6 app development platform for OS X and iOS will let developers work on apps for iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, and the company has already made a new Xcode 6 beta version available to them for testing. In it, 9to5Mac has discovered what seems to be proof that Apple plans to release bigger iOS devices including iPhones and iPads.

Xcode 6 includes a new iOS simulator that allows users to resize the simulated screen to any resolution, in addition to resolutions available for existing iOS products.

Apple is expected to unveil bigger iPhones this fall, including a 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a 5.5-inch model. Similarly, the company is rumored to be working on a bigger 12.9-inch iPad Pro model. All these products are likely to have new screen resolutions compared to existing devices, in order for Apple to continue to offer buyers the same Retina display standard.

A different report from 9to5Mac revealed that Apple’s upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6 model would have to have a resolution of 1,704 x 960, in order for app developers to be able to easily adapt app graphics for various iOS devices. If this is in fact the case, Apple will take a separate path compared to other smartphone makers that have launched bigger smartphones with HD, full HD or quad HD displays.

As for the rumored iPad Pro, Apple’s larger tablet is rumored to pack 2K and/or 4K displays, although it’s not clear if or when such a device might launch.
