HTC Americas president Jason Mackenzie knows that his company’s best shot to gain market share is to take on Samsung. During his talk at the big HTC One M8 event on Tuesday, Mackenzie took repeated shots at rival Samsung, whom he accused of churning out cheap plastic phones loaded with “software gimmicks” and “dimples on the back” that are masked by an enormous advertising budget. HTC repeatedly tried to draw contrasts with Samsung during its presentation by emphasizing its new phone’s all-metal build and talking about its high-end design that it said was more luxurious than other smartphones on the market. It will be interesting to see whether HTC specifically targets Samsung in its coming ad campaign to support the One M8 — after all, bashing Apple did wonders for Samsung so it would only be fair if bashing Samsung did wonders for HTC.
