Nuance on Tuesday announced Dragon Dictate for Mac 4, its latest voice recognition software, which comes bundled with features from the company’s MacSpeech Scribe OS X app that will let users transcribe text from “pre-recorded, single-speaker audio files in many different formats.”

On top of the new transcribing features, Dragon Dictate for Mac 4 is also supposed to offer a “faster and more accurate voice recognition experience,” as well as “higher performance and improved management capabilities over previous versions.” Other features include controlling a Gmail inbox inside Safari or Firefox, and Apple’s Pages 4.3.

Additionally, the software can be used to create voice commands for automating certain tasks, and is able to learn certain preferences of the user when it comes to formatting of dates, numbers, titles, corrections and custom vocabulary, and adapt accordingly, “getting more intelligent and accurate every time it is used.”

“We’ve invested even more in the latest version of Dragon Dictate for Mac to make it the fastest and most accurate voice recognition experience for Mac yet – including customization and personalization capabilities that adapt to any customer’s unique way of working,” chief marketing officer, Nuance’s chief marketing officer Peter Mahoney said. “Combined with powerful transcription features, Dragon Dictate now offers the most complete voice experience on the Mac today.”

Dragon Dictate for Mac 4 can already be purchased on the company’s website, and costs $199.99. Current owners of either Dragon Dictate for Mac and MacSpeech Scribe will get “special upgrade pricing.”

Nuance Unveils Dragon Dictate for Mac Version 4

Latest Version Features a Faster and More Accurate Voice Recognition Experience; New Audio File Transcription Capabilities Combine Two Powerful Voice Offerings into One

BURLINGTON, Mass., March 4, 2014 – Nuance Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ:NUAN) today announced Dragon Dictate for Mac, version 4 – the most powerful, accurate and personalized voice recognition software for the Mac available on the market today. Dragon Dictate for Mac, with convenient, customizable features, makes it easier and faster than ever to dictate and edit text and to control desktop and web applications, simply by speaking. Dragon Dictate for Mac has improved accuracy with new and improved speech recognition technology, and now features the ability to transcribe text from any single speaker’s pre-recorded audio file, combining both voice recognition and transcription offerings into one powerful product.

Dragon Dictate for Mac allows people to save time and to be more productive at school, work, home, or on the go with dictation speeds up to three times faster than typing, with words appearing on the screen as you speak them. As a pure 64-bit application, Dragon Dictate for Mac, version 4, now enables higher performance and improved memory management capabilities over previous versions. In addition, Dragon Dictate for Mac lets you control your Gmail inbox within the Safari or Firefox browser with a few simple voice commands. Dragon Dictate provides Full Text Control in Gmail, so you can mix your talking and typing and still be able to edit, correct and format your text using voice commands. Dragon Dictate also supports Full Text Control in Apple Pages 4.3 – simply by using one’s voice.

Dragon Dictate for Mac also now includes powerful features from Nuance MacSpeech Scribe – creating a single voice offering that can not only transcribe your own voice, but can transcribe text from pre-recorded, single-speaker audio files in many different formats, such as .mp3, .mp4 and .wav. This new transcription capability is fast, accurate and easy and is ideal for writers, students, educators, field workers, business executives or any user who needs to access content from a single speaker’s voice such as a podcast or other distinct audio formats. For instance, teaching assistants and students can record lectures at close range and turn them into text, and field workers can now transcribe recordings of their interviews directly from their digital recorder or smartphone.

Dragon Dictate for Mac creates a personalized voice experience for the Mac with the ability to create customized vocabularies that recognize the words, phrases and names people use the most. Users can also create their own voice commands to automate common tasks. With Smart Format Rules, which detect and store user-specific formatting of dates, numbers, titles and other text, Dragon Dictate remembers corrections and adapts to an individual’s formatting preferences, getting more intelligent and accurate every time it is used.

“We’ve invested even more in the latest version of Dragon Dictate for Mac to make it the fastest and most accurate voice recognition experience for Mac yet – including customization and personalization capabilities that adapt to any customer’s unique way of working,” said Peter Mahoney, chief marketing officer, Nuance. “Combined with powerful transcription features, Dragon Dictate now offers the most complete voice experience on the Mac today.”
