Kazam: Former HTC execs take on their old employer with new phones

Kazam Dual Sim Smartphones HTC

As Apple and Samsung continue to duke it out for the top spot in mobile sales and the countless other manufacturers attempt to claw and scratch their way to third place, a couple of former HTC executives are launching an entirely new brand. Kazam is the creation of Michael Coombes and James Atkins, both of whom left HTC’s UK branch earlier this year ahead of the HTC One release. According to the brand’s website, Kazam is looking to combine innovative phones with an innovative business model while keeping costs down and accessibility up.

Along with the launch of a website, Kazam has revealed its initial smartphone lineup, which contains seven Android phones of varying specifications. The Thunder line, which includes the Q5.0 and Q4.5, houses the most powerful internals — 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 4GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and microSD slot. The Trooper line, which includes the X3.5, X4.0, X4.5, X5.0 and X5.5, features a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of internal storage, 1GB of RAM and a microSD slot. The numbers attached to each model signify the screen size.

Although Kazam has introduced an expansive lineup of affordable handset, the real draw of owning a Kazam smartphone might be the added perks. All Kazam smartphones will have Dual SIM, which means two numbers on a single phone. Kazam also ensures new devices with a one-year screen protection plan. If your screen cracks within a year after purchase, Kazam will replace it free of charge.

Whether or not there is room in the market for another smartphone brand, Kazam is trying to make a statement. The company has yet to announce pricing or release date information for its range of products.
