Redesigned iPhone 5S home button shown in clearest images yet

iPhone 5S Pictures

Supposed photos of Apple’s retail box for the upcoming iPhone 5S leaked last week, possibly revealing the handset’s redesigned home button for the first time. The quality of the pictures was terrible and their authenticity has not been proven, but they appeared to show a new home button with a silver ring around it. In addition, the rounded square currently found at the center of each of Apple’s home buttons had seemingly been removed. While we still don’t know if the iPhone 5S packaging shown in the photos is authentic or not, much higher-quality versions of the pictures have now leaked.

The new photos were published by an unknown source over the weekend and republished by French blog Nowhereelse.fr, which says it has removed links to the original photos at the source’s request. They seemingly show the retail packaging for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5S, which will be unveiled during a press conference on Tuesday.

As can now be seen more clearly in the leaked images, the home button on the new flagship iPhone 5S has been completely redesigned ā€” if these images are in fact authentic. The first, blurrier versions of these photos were published by C Technology, who has published pictures of what are believed to be authentic components from unannounced Apple devices numerous times in the past.

According to several reports, the iPhone 5S will feature a faster processor, an upgraded camera with a dual-LED flash, two new color options and an embedded fingerprint scanner. The changes to the home button seen in these leaked photos, if they are genuine, likely relate to that new embedded print reader.
