Microsoft has done a lot of backtracking from its initial policies for its Xbox One gaming console and its latest reversal will likely make many small, independent gaming companies very happy. GameInformer reports that Microsoft now plans to allow independent game developers to self-publish on the Xbox One marketplace, a change from an earlier policy that drew criticism from indie developers because it required them to go through an established publisher. Microsoft’s change of heart comes just over a month after the company pulled a major 180 on its used games and online connectivity policies to appease gamers who felt the company was being far too restrictive.
