Motorola is now Verizon’s sole provider of Droid devices

Verizon Motorola Droid Exclusivity Deal

Since Motorola’s first Droid smartphone really helped put Android on the map in the United States, it’s only fitting that Motorola will now be the exclusive provider of Droid-branded devices on Verizon’s network. CNET reports that Motorola and Verizon have reached an exclusivity deal where Motorola will be the only company that sells smartphones with Verizon’s trademark Droid brand, ending an era when Verizon would sell Droid smartphones from other vendors such as HTC. The deal with Verizon doesn’t affect Motorola’s plan to sell its upcoming Moto X flagship smartphone through multiple carriers, however, which explains why Motorola is having a separate event for the device on August 1st.
