Lower-priced iPad mini to put tablets in more hands of K-12 students

Apple iPad Mini Event Education Role

In the two years since Apple (AAPL) first released the iPad, the device has become an overnight hit with school students and teachers, and schools have been trying to figure out how use the tablet in innovative ways to improve the classroom. Bloomgberg Businessweek reports Apple is shifting its strategy of selling schools laptops and desktop computers to selling them iPads instead. The Bloomberg report says that maintenance and cost are the two key reasons behind the switch. An iPad mini that costs half as much as a full-sized 9.7-inch iPad would be able to provide two students with a tablet compared to just one. It’s also rumored that Apple will provide an update to iBooks and iBooks Author.
