The above image, captured Thursday evening on an iPhone 4S running iOS 6, shows the world-famous George Washington Bridge mere moments after it collapsed into the Hudson River along with much of the hillside along the coast of New Jersey. Thankfully, this horrible catastrophe took place in a bizarre world that exists only in Apple’s (AAPL) new iOS 6 Maps application.

We have already discussed at length how bad Apple’s Google Maps replacement is, and we also said that Apple is well aware of the issue and likely already working on improving the experience. As pointed out by a user on Ycombinator’s Hacker News, this is indeed the case.

In the past 10 days, Apple has listed six new positions it hopes to fill with developers who can help the Cupertino, California-based company fix up its new maps offering. Apple said in a statement on Thursday that it is “working hard to make the customer experience even better,” and hopefully we start to see the app’s performance improve once reinforcements arrive.

In the meantime, The Amazing iOS 6 Maps is a site dedicated to bringing some comic relief to an otherwise frustrating situation.
