After the launch of the company’s One series failed to generate the level of consumer interest the company was looking for, HTC (2498) plans to significantly reduce the prices of its Android and Windows Phone devices, according to a report from Chinese website My Drivers. The strategy will be applied to models already on the market as well as future products. The Taiwanese manufacturer will supposedly also no longer integrate Beats Audio technology into the majority of its handsets. Once a dominant Android smartphone vendor, HTC has fallen on hard times over the past year and has allowed its rivals to soak up its market share.
UPDATE: A company spokesperson said, “HTC doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation.”
UPDATE 2: A change of heart: “HTC remains strongly committed to Beats Audio and including their innovation in our devices,” HTC said in an emailed statement. “Any rumor of HTC no longer integrating Beats Audio into our devices is categorically false.”
