New full color photos of Apple’s decade-old iPad prototype compare early model to iPad 2

Apple’s (APPL) original iPad was a beast. Photos of an iPad prototype between 8 and 10 years old emerged on Wednesday, revealing Apple’s early vision of a tablet computer. It wasn’t pretty. Technology limitations at the time resulted in a monstrous device that was nearly an inch thick, and Apple rightfully never pulled the trigger on the tablet it began testing some time between 2002 and 2004. Following the first run of iPad prototype photos that were revealed during court testimony delivered by Apple design boss Jonathan Ive, BuzzFeed has managed to unearth a new round of images that show the device in full color for the first time. They also compare the inch-thick iPad prototype to an iPad 2 to show just how far we’ve come over the past decade. An additional image follows below.
