Reports claim new iPad is too hot to handle

Apple CEO Tim Cook said on a company conference call on Monday that the new iPad sold in record numbers during its debut weekend. The executive did not share specific sales figures, but Apple did say that demand was “off the charts” when online pre-order inventory sold out last week. While the new iPad offers a number of benefits over its predecessor, there may be one difference between the second and third-generation iPads that consumers are not so happy about. According to emails from BGR readers as well as a number of posts on various forums and social networks like Twitter, some new iPad owners are finding that their tablets suffer from a serious overheating issue during typical usage. The disgruntled users report that the iPad gets so hot it displays the message “the iPad needs to cool down,” and then shuts off. Apple has not commented on the matter, and BGR was not able to replicate the issue on the three iPads we tested. BGR recently reviewed the new iPad and we called its Retina Display “positively stunning.”
