Families looking for a shared data option from Verizon Wireless can look forward to a new pooled data option finally launching later this year. In response to a question about shared data plans, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo confirmed the company’s intentions to launch the new plans this year, The Verge reported on Tuesday. “You’ll see something launched midyear this year from us,” he said. The carrier also revealed that out of roughly 108.7 million subscribers, only 5% of customers are using the company’s 4G LTE network. Verizon’s best selling smartphone is the iPhone, which is still just a 3G device. Shammo announced that the company doesn’t want to spend any more money on its 3G network, however, and it will instead focus solely on 4G LTE. The carrier has been running various promotions, such as double data and BOGO sales, to encourage customers to upgrade their old devices to new 4G LTE phones.
