Samsung Galaxy S II sells over 20 million units in 10 months

mobile

Samsung announced in late September that the company sold 10 million Galaxy S II smartphones, and five months later the popular handset has crossed the 20-million shipment mark. The smartphone’s predecessor, the Galaxy S, took 17 months to reach the same milestone according to Samsung. When the Galaxy S II launched in April, it quickly became the company’s fastest selling smartphone. Sales are sure to slow in the coming months, however, with Samsung rumored to launch the highly anticipated Galaxy S III in April.

20 million in 10 months… is that even considered an achievement!? the iPhone sold 37 million in 3 freaking months!

Seriously? Can they not enjoy their success?

@Mike…I would consider that an even greater feat for the Galaxy S II considering all of the competition they need to fight off. Not only did the GSII compete with the iPhone but it also had to compete with 75 other Android devices. If someone wants to choose Android for their mobile OS, they MIGHT choose the GSII. If someone wants to choose iOS, they HAVE to choose the iPhone. I think that’s a pretty piss poor job on the iPhones behalf considering it only sold 17 million more units and it doesn’t need to compete with anything else. Can you imagine if the GSII was the only Android device available on the market? How many people who happen to like Android and chose something else would have been forced to purchase the GSII?

Justin Wingate And if the iPhone was available to every carrier since first iPhone, many more people would have an iPhone than an Android phone. Since the release of the iPhone 4 and 4S on Verizon and Sprint, it has become their best selling phone.

Justin Wingate that would be 750,000 gsii’s a day but since we have choices that wont ever happen and i think we like it that way!

Rick Nguyen No one was disputing that, the article had mentioned nothing about the iPhone.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1042895525 Justin Wingate

Rick Nguyen…That’s quite an assumption. The iPhone has been available on the three largest providers for a year and it is still no where in sight of the Android US market share. It’s just not set up to compete with Android when it comes to market share. The same goes for Macs. They aren’t made to be able to compete with Windows when it comes to market share. It’s just impossible for a single manufacturer to compete with multiple manufacturers. Apple built iOS and OSX for max profit. Not max market share.

Apple’s goals are not mass market share but my max profit margins. They know they have a solid following. If they can maximize on that, they’re good.

Android has a larger market share, so ASSUMING all Android phones were Samsung made galaxy phones. Samsung would run circles around Apple on sale numbers.

Gee, a NON iphone story? Hard to believe on iBGR.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1342954405 Wayne Williams

I would say over half of the stories are non-Apple related. I come here every single day and see it for myself. Of course by the tone of your post, you’re an Apple hater so if you see at least one Apple article, then the whole site is 100% Apple, right?

Sad neither the iphone or Galaxy is made in the United States.

      Just…. stop.

Atleast Samsung makes their devices on their home turf and doesn’t have to go to labor farms for increased profit margins. The minimum wage in Korea is more than 3x as much as what Foxconn is paying their workers.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=579762233 Mohsin Shabbir

Also if the Galaxy was made in the US. Samsung would be OUTSOURCING….. to them, that would be a no no.

Mohsin Shabbir Oh, so you’ve been to Foxconn then? Seen it for yourself? Or like the typical moronic American liberal, you digest what the New York Times prints as the Holy Gospel of Truth?

AT&T does offer the Galaxy S II, just not the crappy international version with the cyclops button in the middle.

SGS III should be announce next week during Mobile World Congress.

AT&T has had this phone in their lineup for a few months now. Along with the LTE variant.

sorry, i made a mistake… i meant the galaxy nexus phone, not this one.

Where was the editorial staff on this one? First, you start off saying they *sold* 10 million, then you switch to saying they’ve *shipped* 20 million. Shipped is not the same as sold, so it’d be great to know which it is. And, where’s the source for that 20 million number? Did you just get that from your Ouija board or what? If it was any other company, I might let it slide, but Samsung notably does not post sales or shipment numbers for their phones and tablets–only percentage growth. Without a source, it’s little more than speculation (even with a source, it’s surely *still* speculation, but at least then we could see what metrics were used to get to that number.

    • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=199307049 Chris Pratt

Okay. Nevermind about the source; I didn’t notice the “Read” link at the bottom takes you to the source. However, you still might as well not have a source as have that one. What the heck is “SamsungTomorrow” and what makes this Korean blog a credible source? The mention of 20 million is attributed merely to a “Samsung official”. Which again, I find unlikely because Samsung doesn’t give these types of numbers. You guys really need to do some homework and not just repost whatever some random Korean blog spits out.
