iPhone 4S launch drives record number of BlackBerry trade-ins

mobile

Gazelle, a website that specializes in buying, selling and recycling gadgets, said on Tuesday that BlackBerry trade-ins recently reached an all-time high. Speaking with CNET, Gazelle chief gadget officer Anthony Scarsella said his company saw a “spike” after Research in Motion’s recent BlackBerry service outage, which spanned three days in some areas, but that Apple’s latest iPhone is mostly to blame for the surge. “In the grand scheme of BlackBerry [trade-in] growth over the past month, it can be pretty much entirely attributed to the launch of the iPhone 4S,” Scarsella explained. Additionally, Android trade-ins jumped 72% during the past month, the majority from Sprint customers, although Scarsella said he couldn’t put his finger on an exact event that caused the increase.

I traded in my Blackberry Curve and T-Mobile account for an iPhone 4S on Sprint. Blackberry market share will crater in the fourth quarter.

You gotta be a fcking moron to buy a blackberry over an iphone or droid. A repressed, technophobe who lives in the past. I could destroy any argument you have in favor of a blakcberry over the other two point by point save one: a physical keyboard. Every other argument i could objectively, not subjectively, prove you wrong.

Try security, battery life…    How about that dipshit?

Both iOS and android have good security. Especially IOS. And battery life? Please. You think that out of the hundreds of android devices out there that there aren’t a couple that have blackberry beat in battery life?

Actually, no.  The ONLY thing Blackberry has above anyone else is battery.  For my current project, I was issued a Blackberry Curve and that thing can go forever.  None of my 12,000 Android devices come close to lasting more than 4-5 hours.  Of course, when I add ICS, I am told that won’t be an issue.

Considering mine has been down for a total of about 20 hours in the past 3 years (26280 hours)… which is less than 1% of the total operating time.  Give me a break troll…

So you can super-top-secret-triple-dog-dare text your wife that you’re bringing pizza home for dinner (which would be a stretch given your likely station in life). Fact is, many corporations are moving to other platforms and battery life? Really? That keeps you with a 2002 product? Don’t have a plug everywhere including your car, job, home, etc? You think this is 1950 and them new-fangled electric outlets just can’t be found everywhere you know! What a ta ra ra GOON de-ay.

RIMM just handling everything the worst possible way with a mediocre lineup of phones and not very good app ecosystem like Android and Apple. Then when they screw up their apologies and solutions come across as really dick moves. The sad thing is that Management probably still believes they are out selling both Apple and Android.

I SEEN ALOT OF COMMENTS OF PPL TALKIN ABOUT SWITCHIN AFTER RIM PUSH THE OS.2.0 BACK TO FEB 2012

Um how is this proof that it’s iPhone 4S?  Didn’t a bunch of new BBs come out recently?  It could be users who upgraded to the Tour 2 years ago are trading in their BBs for the new ones….it’s highly plausible.

Ironically I traded in my Iphone4 for a blackberry 9930.
Mainly for occupational reasons and the hardware was covered by new employer.

In all honesty I don’t really miss the ip4 because my circumstances have changed. I don’t commute as far so my internet surfing has gone down and I’m emailing non stop. Blackberries still serve a purpose in the mobile community, its just changed and won’t appeal to most consumers. For better or worse.

Of course if I’m allowed to switch to an ip5 when it comes out I might be singing a different tune.
