Usage of Google’s mobile platform across the Millennial network doubled iOS in the third quarter according to new data just released by Millennial Media. After representing 54% of impressions served by the mobile ad network in August, Android finished strong to account for 56% of impressions in the September quarter. That figure doubled iOS in the No. 2 spot with 28% during the quarter, and it dwarfed RIM’s 13% share. Symbian accounted for just 1% of impressions and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile and Windows Phone platforms combined to also account for 1% of impressions. The iPad dominated tablets, having grown a whopping 456% between the third quarter in 2010 and this past quarter, and impressions across iOS grew 60% over the same period. Apple was the top manufacturer on Millennial’s network in the third quarter with a 23.09% share followed by Samsung (16.48%), HTC (15.5%), RIM (11.05%) and Motorola (10.7%). Apple’s iPhones were also the top handset line with a 12.55% share, more than double the No. 2 device line, LG’s Optimus phones, which accounted for 6.3% of impressions served. RIM’s BlackBerry Curve line was next with 4.7% followed by Motorola DROID phones with 4.35% and the HTC desire with 4.01%. Additional charts from Millennial’s third-quarter Mobile Mix report follow below.

Redmond has to love all the figures that keep coming out showing Windows Phone being irrelevant. It’s like constantly being poked with a sharp stick. Still, they are making good money off Android.

as a consumer , does that make you have a good phone? unless you have stock in them , you’ve brought up a pretty lame point here

He didn’t say it would change anything about his life.  He simply pointed out that to Microsoft, the only people that should care about market share, it must suck.  Not sure why you are being so defensive.  Perhaps you own MS stock?  Or, perhaps you have simply deluded yourself in to believing that you are part of the “Microsoft team”?

Just curious, why should ONLY microsoft care about market share?  All businesses should care about market share!

Love how all the ‘iPhones’ are compiled to appear as just one phone while other phones are listed one by one, revisioned (galaxy s, s2) or not.

Are you serious?! Have you never noticed the way the press ALWAYS says Android vs iPhone?! Like Android isn’t an OS used by 40 OEMs!

There is no ‘Android vs iphone’ chart made by the press as it would be weird, comparing a system to a device. There are charts Android vs iOS, and Android devices vs. iOS devices, and general chart for all phones like the ‘CHART B’ supposed to be, but it failed and counted all iPhones as one device. Just that.

It’s funny how people sit here and over analyze all these posts dealing with stats and figures from these companies; in the end we’re just consumers, not CEO’s trying to by a company.  When I look at the comments these types of post generate I think some people just hate to see the opposing OS/Company win. So overall Android and Apple are winning, why not be happy about that. At least you know the platform you love so dearly is here to stay. Now if your platform is in the 1% range I’m sorry.

I guess we can conclude that 13% of the people survey are dumb.

This is news? I’m surprised it’s not higher than that considering the fact 3 Android phones are launched everyday.

I agree with Mr Smurf. Why isn’t the Iphone broken down by model like the Galaxy phones are?
    2G, 3G, 3Gs, 4G, 4Gs
    Makes this report meaningless.
