HTC may announce HTC Rezound on November 3rd in NYC, aims to Beats the Galaxy Nexus

Breaking

If you’re just waiting to blast some Beats audio-laden tunes from HTC’s latest and greatest, November 3rd will probably be a good day for you. That’s the date on the invitations HTC just sent out to the media, and we’re expecting the company to announce the HTC Rezound, also known by the code-name “HTC Vigor” for Verizon Wireless. The device should feature a 4.3-inch 720p HD display, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera and, of course, Beats audio. No word on whether or not Lady Gaga Beats headphones will ship with the device, though. We’ll be reporting live from the event next Thursday so stay tuned.

If it ships with Ice Cream Sandwich, then we have a solid rival for the Galaxy Nexus.

but if it ships with ics and lady gaga headphones, only fudgepackers will buy it

Homophobia at its finest. Do yourself a favor and deep throat a shotgun.

Lady Gaga is huge amongst the LBGT community so he isn’t far off, though not the most tasteful choice of words I agree.

      • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

@Norm_4G_LTE:disqus You really support that nonsense? It is a pair of headphones…

      • Anonymous

I kind of agree with him, Lady GaGa is for people with iPhones. While I don’t have anything against GaGa or LGBT, I would like the option of just “Beats” by Dré (without the new Disco Queen’s headphones)!

What’s really sick is that 7 people including Norm liked that comment. I wish they’d just come out of the closet.

@PAPINYC:disqus I think you’re forgetting the GaGa commercial for Google Chrome.

judging by how butthurt you got about my comment, I think you do enough deep throating for all of us

Solid rival indeed. Same screen (possibly without the Pentile matrix) pixel amount but higher pixel density, smaller screen size (this may be a positive or a negative, depending on what you want), and a more powerful processor (we’ll see how benchmarks do though, because sometimes HTC processors are crap). Oh, and removable storage. Big one there.

Even though the GN sports a 4.65″ screen, its still the same size device as a 4.3″ device. the extra length includes the onscreen keys. Basically, the body of the phone will be that of a 4.3″ device for the most part.

      • guest

Wrong, please check your facts. “Most” phones with a 4.3: screen are about 5″ tall, the GN is 5.33″ tall. Not much of a savings since the top and bottom bezel are rather large.

No ICS… leaks show it coming with Gingerbread… no way are we seeing any ICS phones until CES I think… Especially not an HTC with Sense UI… even with that said… I’m still a sucker for HTC… both android phones have been HTC phones… If this thing has an NFC chip… I may second guess the Gnex

      • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

The Rezound is scheduled to launch the same time as the Galaxy Nexus from the internal release charts I have seen. Around November 12ish has been pretty consistent in what I have seen. It wouldn’t surprise me if it did ship with Gingerbread, but this phone will be the first of HTC’s to be updated to ICS. The 720p display is a dead give away that it was built with ICS in mind.

      • Anonymous

Isn’t the leaked Verizon document stating Nov 10th?

    • Remington Jackson

Dream on no ICS for this. If it does, I’ll say about time. Now setup Motorola and Samsung.

  • Anonymous

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if they put the same energy and vigour into making Windows Phones?

    • Anonymous

They can’t, because Microsoft limits hardware specifications. So all they can innovate in is stuff like speakers and general design.

      • Anonymous

That is not true. Microsoft limits them from the perspective of the minimal specs to ensure certain quality of the user experience. There are no limitations on the top-end specs – it is purely the choice of OEMs.

      • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

Microsoft limits what processors can be used, and some companies just make better chipsets.

      • Anonymous

        @twitter-133878082:disqus ,

At this point MS limits CPU to a single-core only because of the performance/battery life considerations. There is no restrictions on the power or “quality” of the CPU. Furthermore, the specs include a lot more than simply CPU – screen, battery, memory and others. All those HTC/Samsung/LG simply terrible in that department when it comes to Win Phone.

      • Anonymous

I didn’t know that. When I read that Microsoft is limiting hardware, I thought it was a two way street in terms of power. Guess I was wrong.

Still, the OS isn’t optimized (yet) for dual-core. You’ll essentially be using a single-core phone with crappier battery than normal if they release a dual-core phone.

      • Anonymous

There is a reason why Windows Phones don’t use dual-core, and the battery life is precisely it. The gains from using dual-core are insignificant, but the battery life impact is significant. The value/loss ratio is not in favour of dual-core for Win Phone at the moment.

BTW, using Win Phone on HTC Surround for a year now I can say that even Mango doesn’t show any signs of sluggishness. Everything is super-smooth and fast. I am not sure what changes I would expect to see by moving to dual-core today.

    • Anonymous

Because energy and vigor cost money, and to make that money back you need to sell said product, and no one is buying windows phones.

      • Anonymous

Catch 22, isn’t? Few people (no one is rather a silly statement) buy Windows Phone because hardware is terrible. To say that the hardware is terrible because there are no buyers is putting the cart before the horse.

  • http://twitter.com/Hardened Hardened

Common give us the RSVP link ;)

  • Kesey

Only relevant if it has ICS.

    • Fuzzypumpkins

      Hahaha, you’re funny.

    • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

If it doesn’t ship with it, I could see it getting updated really quick. HTC is pretty good with their updates.

      • Anonymous

But for ICS? I think it may take a while for them so figure out a new version of Sense UI for it… I don’t think we’ll see updates from HTC for at least 4 months

      • Anonymous

HTC is rated #1 for updates, but I’d be surprised to see HTC push it out before the end of 4th QTR. I’d say mid 1st QTR at best.

  • Anonymous

I don’t particularly care about Beats; most people aren’t getting everything that they can get out of their music to begin with. You’re streaming 96kbps mp3s through the headphones included with the phone. Maybe fix those things, first.

  • http://allegrotechie.wordpress.com Savitt

i hate how people only care about the specs. ics is optomized for any dual core with about 1ghz+, regardless between the gn and this, the numbers don’t really matter. same with megapixels, they don’t decide the camera. i say galaxy nexus ftw

  • Anonymous

It will be shit because it will have Sense.  I would much rather have the Galaxy Nexus with the vanilla Android experience, plus the fast and direct updates from Google.

HTC already is not sure what they are going to do with Ice Cream Sandwich because they want to put their Sense garbage on top of it.

Sense is crap.  And I will bet good money this phone will not ship with ICS, it will ship with Gingerbread with Sense on top.

    • http://www.elementary-project.com Kevin McDole

Sense is win. I don’t know why so many people hate on Sense without backing it up. I bet you’ve never owned a Sense phone or used one for more than a day. If you have, I stand corrected. But can you explain where your dislike of Sense comes from?

      • http://twitter.com/GRZLA Grizzly Atoms

I own 3 HTC phones and I can’t stand Sense. It is extremely bloated and very limited. With my homescreen, I have by default 7. I don’t need 7 home screens. This was fixed with the introduction of Sense 3.5 but I still don’t like it. Constant background syncing of things I never use. The default launcher is limited and often laggy. The other problem I see is that Sense hasn’t changed very much. They revamped the launcher, but that is it. All of the icons are exactly the same as they have been since Sense has existed. Sense is boring, bloated, and not worthwhile. All of my HTC phones are rooted and running AOSP roms.

This is my personal opinion of Sense, I don’t want to see any crying.

        Agreed a million times over

I have used an Evo and an Evolution 3D for extended periods of time. I also own an Epic 4G and am Epic 4G Touch. I think the same of Touchwiz, though Touchwiz on the Touch is much better. If manufactures just used stock Android we wouldn’t have to wait for updates and people could move between Android phones without re-learning everything.

      • Jlfrawley

I had the D1 and now the Droid Incredible… I have to say honestly I disliked the sense UI so much that I invested in launcher Pro to get rid of it.
The vanilla android experience is much better IMO

      • Guest

Owned an EVO. Sense is way too resources heavy. Animations that are front and cented should be buttery smooth, such as opening and scrolling the app drawer. It looks nice but doesn’t feel pretty. Its clunky as hell. Smooth scrolling, its what sells iPhones so much.

You’re probably an HTC marketing person so know this: sense is fine if it gets out of the way. Don’t add anything that makes the UX noticeably slower. HTC sense is realllly slow.

    • Jordudeca

Personally love sense. HTC won me over with sense on the hero. Now EVO 3d. Nothin better

    • Steel

I think Sense was necessary for the early days of Android.  However, now I’d like to see a box I can uncheck in the Settings to turn it off if I like.

  • http://twitter.com/crackers8199 matt greco

i’m hoping it has NFC.  google wallet intrigues me.

i’ve been waiting forever for the chance to get a nexus phone on verizon, but as an incredible owner from day 1  with no major issues to this day (although cyanogenmod helps) i’m kinda intrigued by this.  i’ll probably just end up playing with both in store to decide which one i want…my upgrade date isn’t til december anyway.

    • skidiver

Took the words right out of my mouth. I love my original DInc and plan to play with both in-store until my december upgrade.

IOS = winner      wp7= the looser    ANDROID = The biggest and the most innavation.

        “innovation” (=

If you’re going to praise, please spell correctly!!!

  • Ironicmercy

I’ve had and eris forever, I love htc. I also care very little about the ICS shipping. Htc makes rooting stupid easy and cyogen is what I run anyway, so all I care about is specs to keep up with the insane things they’re going to come up with. And htc phones are sexy looking, hard to break and being stuck with sense for two weeks won’t suck it is freaking pretty.

  • Anonymous

why anyone would buy a gingerbread phone now is beyond me…

  • Fatty Bunter

    Don’t care, don’t care, don’t care…SHOW ME ICS

  • Cer

If the Thunderbolt is any indication, this will never get ICS.

To all those who say “just root,” just go away.

  • Anonymous

If there is an easy root method and stable ICS port, I am there.

    • Guest

As a developer, I resent the wannabes who wait and get pissed when we don’t roll out one click roots before a phone is even released. Learn to use ADB shell on your own.

      • Anonymous

I don’t see why you would care what I do or do not do.  I don’t get angry, I just use a product that works for me.  You need to lighten up.

      • Guest

I get pissed when people get mad at the dev community for not releasing an exploit “fast enough” for them.  If they don’t want to do the legwork, they don’t deserve it. u mad?

  • Guest

Why does BGR get invited to anything? All they do is rip on every product that isn’t apple-made

  • VigorFTW

This is the main device I’ve been waiting on. Being that it was originally rumored for an October 4/5th announcement, let’s hope that the delay was actually for the Vigor to launch with Ice Cream Sandwich. Even if it doesn’t, an ICS port will be released for it on XDA. The Galaxy Nexus really fell short in regards of its technology (especially with its pentile display and lack of an expansion card slot), so I won’t even consider it.

  • Anonymous

Bottomline this device will release with GINGERBREAD not ICE CREAM SANDWHICH…I will be purchasing the GALAXY NEXUS why???? because I want to experience PURE ANDROID for the first time and YES that will be on VERIZON. I will end up having the best of both world’s my beloved HTC EVO 3D and the best device the SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS…Great way to end 2011…..I want ice cream sandwhich so yes the galaxy nexus is the best option period. HTC won”t have no update for ICS on any htc devices till Feb/Mar 2012 that is my prediction….

  • Xcution25

I hope this is the Inspire HD that was briefly seen in att’s database not long ago.  This would be a solid upgrade to my Inspire and one last hail mary before the iphone 5.

    • Xcution25

Oops! I was also reading a review of the 4s. I meant to say if it doesn’t come to Att I’d have to wait for  the galaxy s3

That looks like the coolest thign I have ever seen man. I mean like totally cool.

    @yarrellray:disqus
Yeah, a pure Android phone with dated hardware. Have fun with that…The bottom line is that the Nexus should have been so much more. Consumers around the world are mourning the death of Google’s flagship device (Google it). Who knew it would turned out to be such an underwhelming flop? ICS & NFC just isn’t enough to give it the crown as the best Android option available, not by a long shot. Outside of those two “minor” features, the Galaxy Nexus gets trumped by HTC Vigor in almost every single way (CPU, GPU, Display, Camera, Expansion Slot, etc). When it comes down to the most important aspect of a device (which is the hardware, for future proofing), the Galaxy Nexus lands closer to the same level as Motorola’s RAZR, and that isn’t saying much at all. What remains to be seen is what OS Vigor is actually launching with, or if it’ll have NFC. Everyone has only had the privilege of reading the same recycled rumors through countless blogs so, at this point, it is pure speculation. What’s for certain is that there is already a dump of ICS floating around XDA, and that a working port will be here much sooner than 2012.Personally, I’ll take superior hardware over software any day of the week. HTC Vigor/Rezound will offer that. It’s going to be the sleeper device of the year! Easy.

Too bad they have a broken BlueZ bluetooth 3.0 stack in ALL OF THEIR NEW PHONES.  Loses backwards  compatibility with bluetooth 2.x cars.  Surprised no one has reported on this.

  • Steel

Now, just include NFC and an upgrade to 4.0 by January and you’ll be top dog.
