BlackBerry Bold 9790 due in late November with redesigned buttons; OS 7.1 later this year

We’ve just heard from a tipster that the BlackBerry Bold 9790 — think of the BlackBerry 9900 and mash that up with the BlackBerry 9700 — will be launching around the end of November. The device will feature a 2.45-inch 640 x 480-pixel VGA touch display, 8GB of built-in storage and of course, a full QWERTY keyboard. New here is the redesigned (hideous) menu buttons a la BlackBerry Torch 9850. The device was incredibly clean before, but the new buttons ruin it for us. RIM also made the same move with the BlackBerry 9850 before it was released, changing the design from flush buttons to individual physical keys. Additionally, we have been told that RIM’s first major update to OS 7, OS 7.1, will launch later this year. This is expected to be the last OS release from RIM before the company unites its smartphone and tablet operating systems with the BBX platform.

    I have the 9850 and everyone I have shown it to has said that the design is great and it looks nice.  Just because a bunch of “experts” on the internet say it is a bad design doesn’t mean a thing.  The buttons on the 9850 look great.  They work great.

      ive move on to android about three years ago , but i have to say , blackberry is needed . i agree that it looks nice .
      one good thing about bb i love , you can get your message out fast with out going through the rif raf.
      if i could afford it , i would definitely have the two phones. i would have to keep in mind that the bb is strictly for business. not to mention their battery life , i dont know how they do it

      The “experts” saying it looks bad doesn’t make it a bad design, its every consumer that thinks it looks bad that makes it a bad design. If you think you look professional carrying around a 9850 then you are crazy.
      Don’t get me wrong I am a BB fan but these buttons are ridiculous and they are only there to make the devices cheaper, not to enhance the design in any way.

        It really does, and I have never denied that. With EVERYTHING there is brand loyalty. I know people who buy noting except SONY products. SONY TV, entertainment center, speakers, etc …. There is nothing wrong with it. That’s a normal thing in any industry. Some people buy nothing but Ford, some Honda; some Android based, and others Apple.

      Sadly this is more true than it was last year or the year before. They are really going down hill. If RIM execs were smart they would have build up on their winning keyboard/form factor with an OS people actually care about. And they would have done this a couple of years ago instead of developing BlackBerry OS side by side and waiting last minute. There is no other phone that can match the BB form factor and keyboard. None. It has a great chance to be #1. But … they don’t seem to care about evolving to compete until they realize they are in trouble. Sad. Just ….. sad.

    RIM was going in the right direction with the 9900 although it was late and not complete, in my opinion but this phone is a clear sign that RIM is out of touch with the innovation movement going on right now in this industry.  I mean what more can be said about this company that’s not been stated on a regular basis. Even Crackberry dot com can’t cosign BBX and those are the ultimate self proclaimed fan boys and that speaks volumes … RIM You are going in the Wrong Direction .
