Samsung announces Android-powered Transform Ultra for Sprint

mobile

Samsung announced the Transform Ultra for Sprint on Monday, an Android 2.3-powered smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The Transform Ultra is powered by a 1GHz processor and has a 3-megapixel camera, a secondary front-facing VGA camera for video chat, a 3.5-inch touchscreen display with an HVGA resolution, 512MB of RAM, 2GB of on-board storage, a 1,500 mAh battery and support for Sprint’s 3G network. Neither Sprint nor Samsung have announced pricing or a release date for the Transform Ultra, although we suspect it will hit the market in time for the holiday season at a budget-friendly price. Hit the break for Samsung’s fact sheet.

Is there a general rule that they can’t make powerful sliders? Every slider is under powered. This one has a 1ghz single core processor.

    • Typical Fruit Fan

Yes, there is… it’s called the “nobody buys these things anyway” rule… so they throw a few hundred out in the wild, and a few hundred suckers buy them.  And if you add it together with the other rule, the “this thing is for a garbage network like Sprint” rule – you end up with this device.

      • numetheus

HA!! That is soooo true. Sprint is pretty crappy in my area.

I agree, it would be nice if they could make a powerful slider. However, this serves it’s purpose as a replacement for the intercept and the transform on the network. It’s good for my wife that is NOT a power user, but likes the Android phones and a slider.

This is cooler than other smartphones out there, hope to get one real soon.

Except for the camera and processor, this has the same specs as the 4S… Lol. But in the android world is just another mid range pos.

    • Bringit

Right!  Because it’s ALL about specs.  Usability and how an OS works is wayyy overrated.  It’s all about massive screens, massive specs and a 2003 slide out keyboard!  Sweet.

OSes are overrated. I’ll take higher specs any day which is why I choose DROID OS.

the only thing they have in common are RAM and screen size….

Sorry, didn’t see your post. Isn’t this a great iPhone 4/4S with a slide-out keyboard!! It’s awesome; too bad Steve Bjobz didn’t think about it before he went to that great grazing pasture in the iSky! The rest of his herd would have simply loved it [if Stevie had come up with it]. But, alas, he only stole & copied after the fact.

Wow, another mind blowingly awesome Android phone!!  No wonder they sell so many of them!!

    What a shitty phone…

The original Transform should have never been released. It was a POS from the start

    • Bringit

Can cut and paste this for all Android phones.

I looooove this phone, it is absolutely awesome. It is identicAlly the same in specificAtions to the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S by Apple; the only two differences being that the Transform Ultra supports external memory via MicroSD and, of course, it has a slide-out keyboard. The two aforementioned hardware differences make the Transform Ultra a far superiOr deviCe. Thank you Samsung for upping’ the game [again]!

iPhones are girl phones. This is so much more masculine. I’ll take it.

    • fackhole

i like to take it this fone and shuve it up my culo!

Although I LOVE slide out keyboards, this phone is NOT a step forward.
The only thing it offers over the HTC Evo Shift 4G is a SLIGHT bump in horsepower and a front facing camera. With Samsung’s history of NOT updating it’s phones with new software, I think the HTC is the better choice over this phone.

Funny that this just got mentioned here as big news… Wirefly had an unboxing video for the Transform Ultra up a few days ago.

And this phone might surprise you with its performance. Because it has fewer pixels to push around on the display, it’s actually close to dual-core speed territory in some ways. The original Transform was a pos, but this is a lot better.

BTW, the HTC myTouch 4G Slide is a dual-core slider.

Problem being it’s a samsung… remember the Samsung Moment? truly a worthless pos that sprint promoted as if it was something spectacular when it was just garbage, so why even begin to think this one will be any better?

    • userofphones

I’m familiar and have access to both a Samsung Moment and the Transform Ultra, and the TU is *much* better. The Samsung Moment looks nicer than the TU, but the TU clubs the moment like a seal pup in performance.
