Apple’s MacBook Pro line gets quiet spec bump

Computers

Apple on Monday quietly updated its line of MacBook Pro notebook computers with faster processors and more storage. The late-2011 MacBook bump comes a bit later than expected, but it is somewhat in line with various reports. Apple’s low-end $1,199 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop now includes a 2.4GHz dual-core Core i5 processor with 500GB of storage, and $1,499 will now buy a 2.8GHz dual-core Core i7 with a 750GB hard drive. The 15-inch MacBook Pro includes a 2.2GHz quad-core Core i7 and an AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics card for $1,799 or a 2.4GHz quad-core Core i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M GPU for $2,199. Atop Apple’s laptop lineup, the base-level 17-inch MacBook pro now includes a 2.4GHz quad-core Core i7 processor and the AMD 6770M for $2,499, and a fully-loaded 17-inch model includes a 2.5GHz quad-core Core i7 CPU and a 512GB solid state drive for $3,849. Apple’s updated MacBook Pro notebooks begin shipping immediately.

Eww… Still overpriced. I’ll stick with my MSI lappy. Faster… Cheaper… Beefier, yes, but in a good way.

      You do that.

So you’re literally just advertising for Apple now? Does Dell get a full article with prices and configuration options when they bump their specs?

I am not an Apple fan and I never had one before but I had purchase a couple of them for gift. Recently, I bought a Macbook Air for my elder sister as a present. Although, it won’t make me switch side, I am really impress with the build quality. If there is a problem with my computers, I can find a way to remedy it, at least some of them. With PC, you can always buy a newer component and slap it on there. But that would never integrate well as much as a Macbook. I have yet to find any PC, desktop or Laptop, that integrate software and hardware like Apple product. So for average computer user like my sister, it makes sense to go with a well integrate product that they never have to worry about. So you pay a premium price for it, just like with health insurance and auto.
I am a hardcore PC guy, I build my own PC and I upgrade my PC every once in a while. My last round of upgrade was in June, 2011. Now I have already set up fund for my next upgrade, which will be in Thanks giving holiday. But I am seriously thinking about a Mac for my next laptop. Laptop, unlike desktop, are mobile workstation and you need it for work and I don’t have time to fool around with it. I won’t be dropping 1.7 k or 2k on a macbook but 1200 macbook pro is looking very attractive for me. Its a close product that works and I need that for work.

Who cares what dell is doing? Nobody that’s why you don’t hear anything about them.

there’s no way in hell tech cost that much and in 1yr -18 months is already outdated…i guess occupy wallstreet is not hitting all of us, seriously if all those prices were halved apple would still make a prophet now they’re just flaunting

That’s how little you know about their hardware…my macbook pro from 2007 is still kicking ass. Prior I had to purchase a laptop every other year but Macs get software updates constantly and are built to last. My processing speed may be a bit slower but everything rocks. 2 grand isn’t so much when your going to keep the product for a few years and longer.

at 2 g’s i’m surprised they didnt hand deliver it to you, i have never known anyone to buy new laptops every year …thats ridiculous, you’re right about not knowing outside of my iphones and ipods, this is a pc household and you know what they keep chugging along aswell and games run flawless

I said every other year, and I know quite a few people who’ve had to purchase a new PC laptop due to a variety of reasons. Personally I needed a Mac for my career and after using one I will never go back to a PC. It’s a preference, but they’re definitely worth the money you spend.

I have the early year refresh.  Its a beautiful machine and I do love it.  But, make no mistake the only hardware difference between this and every other notebook out there is the aluminum unibody case.

ok i understand, you prob more a/v, i have a fien who recently bout the all in one desktop for final cut, outside of those reasons i dont know, but its your money.

Wow only a .1 or .2 GHz speed bump.  Apple didn’t even bother putting a “NEW” label in the online store…  I expect the new casing revision to come sooner than the usual 9 months-ish then.

This was a spec bump to tie them over until Ivy Bridge. First shipping products for the platform aren’t expected until Q2 2012. If they are going to do a major overhaul on the design I would expect it to be with Ivy Bridge.

Biggest disappointment. To be honest, I’m not apple will ever do that.  If they really wanted to put out a legitimate update that’s what they should do.

F*ck, those are expensive laptops. I never did realize just how expensive their stuff was… talk about profit margins!

So, slight bump in processor and more storage.  I guess Apple can hold a big media event and launch their new MacBook Pro “S” now?

i’ve had my macbook for 4 years and it still gets updates, never had a virus issue, its a beautiful piece of machinery that lasts…its definitely an investment.

Man, those prices are driving me out of space. I think I’ll orbit my way to a pc laptop.
