‘Say hello to the most amazing iPhone yet’ [video]

mobile

Apple’s first television advertisement for the iPhone 4S began airing on Thursday and it bills the new smartphone as Apple’s most amazing iPhone yet. Titled simply “Assistant,” the ad places Apple’s new virtual personal assistant Siri front and center as it rapidly passes through a montage of iPhone 4S owners calling on Siri for help. One man asks Siri how to tie a bow tie, while a concerned woman asks for the fastest route to Hartford Hospital. A businessman asks Siri to reschedule his meeting and a young girl asks what a weasel looks like. The commercial runs through a dozen scenarios where Siri comes in handy, wrapping things up with a woman who locked herself out of her home. The woman simply states, “I’m locked out,” and Siri quickly uses her GPS location and a web search to replies with “I found 3 locksmiths fairly close to you.” Siri is the gift that keeps on giving, of course, and this is the first of many ads we’ll see touting the iPhone 4S’ most compelling new feature. A video of Apple’s Assistant spot follows below.

yeah, Siri sounds awesome. its too bad the servers for it are getting overwhelmed with people trying to use it.Too many complaints of “no connection” make this feature a dead fish.

Notice all those people spoke perfect English. Siri can’t hang with the folks with an accent.

This is the dumbest piece of news ever. Its about a stupid commercial. Jesus. There’s 5 minutes of my life I wont get back.

What I have always enjoy about Apple’s ads is that Apple is not throwing specs, specs, screen size, processors and any of those underlying stuff in our faces, this is about getting the most out of your device, not getting the specs as the most important thing on any given device.

I’ve seen several instances of someone asking “this Beta product” a question and it fails repeatedly. Just stop with this… Apple is a gimmick and nothing more.

But really, I do have to speak a little clearer than normal. I tend to talk to fast normally, maybe Siri will make me a better speaker? lol

  • Ranger Chuck

Why did this even need to be an article?  Seriously…it’s a commercial. Holy Crap, let’s write about on BGR because we have nothing else to write about…..

  • Bigwang

Vlingo has been on Android for awhile
Voice Control(stock Android app since 1.6) does the same thing but uses Googles database of info vs using other companies.

BTW, Apple doesn’t actually OWN Siri since the engine it uses is from NUANCE which makes DragonDictate for Android and PC.

Oh yea, Siri was developed by the SRI International AI Center…a DARPA company, which makes the tech government owned…

    “Goodbye!!”

  • Demofya

I will not be impressed with the iPhone until it is able to clean my house, wash my cars, cook me and the wife dinner and best of all, give me a happy ending massage.

    That is all.

    Dear BGR,

we the Goofans (aka Apple Haters) are angry. If you continue to post these pro-Apple posts we will have no choice but to come to the story post comments and generate page views. We are angry and we are not going to take it anymore.

You’ve seen our power. Apple stories generate 10-20 times the number of comments and page views. So you are feeling it and we won’t stop until YOU stop…

    Sincerely,

    Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation

Speaktoit gives us Siri on Android

Kinda interesting that the commercial has the people speaking into the phone but does not at all display what the phone does with that information other than the last scene with the locksmith. I wonder if Siri really works as well as apple suggests…

“Siri, do you know what a droid razr is?”

  • Red4047

Getting between 5 and 8 Mbs download and 1 to 1.8 Mbs upload on a iphone4S on AT&T 3G in SW Missouri. Who needs LTE. I can deal with this for a year. Oh and did I mention, I really like Siri, especially while driving.

  • Snailmail

Siri is a HANDS FREE app, it’s a feature not for everybody, but I think it’s a very good feature when you are driving. Since it has sorta like AI search feature, it will detect and break down what siri thinks you want and need, which a search can not do that.

For example,  If you say do I need umbrella today?  Siri knows you are referring you are asking for the WEATHER.

Try to do the same thing with regular Internet search?

Once again, it’s not an app for everybody, but it’s sure a handy feature that you will get to use sometimes, when your hands are busy etc.

I’m not an apple fan boy, and I am a pc user,  but I think this is a feature that we PC user are very envy about.

As you see in the ad, when you are jogging,  are you really going to TYPE and search your content?

I’m sure you just wanna hold your iphone headset button, and activate siri for the hands free operation to do your search instead of jogging and typing at the same time.

    This is a big leap.

Does android have HEADSET which have a button that you can activate search or play music, fast forward music, repeat music.  This is a big advantage for iphone users.

Once again, I repeat, the SIRI feature is not a feature that you use daly, but you will thank it when you need it while your hands are busy.

Great idea from APPLE converting siri into easy access with just a button.

I LOVE MY SIRI. iPhone 4S forever..

  • http://twitter.com/Koki5Kattun Alaa

Wow.. So many Droid lovers on Apple news, especially iPhone.
If you’re just gonna blindly hate on Apple, don’t come at all.
Go to news about Android instead since you guys love it so much.

  • HI

um ANDROID has had this out for a long time now.  The apps weren’t that popular because they suck….just as much as the iphone’s siri sucks.  I’ve used them both, repeating yourself, it not knowing what to do….Iphone is pushing the hell out of a product that is so limited in its functional use.  nothing is more frustrating than siri repeating exactly what you said saying “i dont know what you mean by ’exactly what you just said’”  10 Bucks says apple will claim it invented it but here are some apps for android that did it first: Speaktoit, Edwin and even Vlingo to some extent.

    Wow.  Great ad.

That will sell a ton of phones.
