In-Stat: 4G LTE handset shipments to top 154 million in 2015

mobile

One in five smartphones sold in the United States during the second quarter was 4G LTE-enabled according to The NPD Group, and the market for LTE handsets is set to continue its rapid ascent according to a new report. Market research firm In-Stat on Wednesday suggested sales of handsets with embedded 4G LTE will surpass 154 million units in 2015. We’ve seen even more bullish projections — ABI Research said last week that annual LTE smartphone sales would reach 245 million devices in 2016 — but the consensus appears to be that LTE growth won’t be slowing any time soon. Read on for more.

“As the number of smartphones and other mobile devices that require data connections increases, so does the need for the increased capacity provided by LTE networks,” said In-Stat analyst Chris Kissel. “There will be over 290 million LTE subscriptions by 2015. Not only is the forecast for the number of LTE handsets moving rapidly upward, so, too, is the total number of cellular subscribers.”

In-Stat also notes in its new Cellular Subscriptions and Handsets Database, Q4’11 Forecast that total cellular subscriptions are expected to reach 6.5 billion in 2015.

I have a prediction too.  In 2018, 4G LTE phones will account for 100% of all new phone sales.

what are you talking about? 3g has been around for 5 years or so. I predict we will have 5g LongerTE, with phones that have 8core cpus, paper thin, 4gb drr4 ram, projector built in, drivers license, car/house/office remote keys, kinect camera functionality,  live tv streaming, oh and finger print/hand scanners.

That’s a low number. By 2015 apple will have the iPhone 6S and it will easily sell 300 million units that year. 👊😜 True story ™©®

In respects to Verizon and their 4G LTE I think it’s kind of funny how they sold everyone early on this technology when it wasn’t even perfected yet, with their numerous outages. Also we had the Thunderbolt, The Charge, The Revolution, The Bionic, The Breakout and The Stratosphere all subpar 4g phones that had numerous issues ranging from battery management issues to update issues. Yes 4G is great, I’ve used it but as great as it is I think they rushed devices and pushed 4G when it wasn’t really ready. I think right now they are getting better but we will see with the release of the razar and the nexus how better they are getting. I hate how they used early adopters as guinea pigs but I guess that’s how it goes.  I’m good with 3G for now.
