AT&T Q3 earnings deck reveals two upcoming 4G LTE markets: Boston, Washington DC

Exclusive

AT&T just reported a solid third quarter that saw its total subscriber count pass 100 million for the first time. Of course that milestone will be crushed if the carrier’s $39 billion T-Mobile USA acquisition is approved, but for the time being it represents a solid strategy that is clearly working. A huge part of that strategy moving from 2011 into 2012 is rolling out 4G LTE service across 15 cities, the first five of which went live last month: Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. AT&T has yet to reveal the remainder of the 15 markets it intends to blanket with its next-generation 4G service this year, but BGR has uncovered two previously unannounced cities named within the carrier’s presentation for its upcoming earnings call. According to AT&T’s slide deck, both Boston and Washington DC will see the carrier’s 4G LTE service go live this year and judging by some of the speeds we’ve seen so far, residents should certainly be looking forward to it.

Coverage should be tolerable as att has 24mhz in those areas.  Their
rollout plan is to roll lte out in areas where they have the bandwidth
paired at 12 up and 12 down so they can generate a positive word of
mouth campaign from the limited user experience.

    When they
rollout to cities like NY and San Francisco, they will screw customers
in those areas as they only have paired 6×2 or 12 mhz meaning users
experience will very much be like on their supposed 3g network.  User
experiences in those cities will be like Chicago, barely faster than
their 3g if you can get it at all.

I agree, I wish their earnings deck hinted as to whether NYC was finally going to get mediocre 3G coverage – or if they’ve just decided to give up altogether.

If I have to walk outside for AT&Ts LTE, as with their 3G “network,” you can count me out.

And yet At*t is still going under!

Okay, before the launch more LTE markets lets remember the cap before overages is 4 gigs unless you “Grandfathered in” which is nonsense but no less reality.

So what about ATT. Are you going to launch more tiered plans to allow more data to flow through. Makes no sense to release a phone with blazingly fast speeds that sucks a month’s data limit in a few short hours.
