New Amazon Kindle Fire tablet expected in second half of 2012

Tablets

The Kindle Fire hasn’t even hit the market yet but the tablet’s successor is already reported to be set for a launch in the second half of next year. Reportedly, Foxconn has secured orders for the device and is working to get the tablet out of the door and onto store shelves during that time period, DigiTimes said on Wednesday. Quanta Computer is building the current generation Kindle Fire, although Amazon is largely believed to already have a second-generation quad-core “Hollywood” tablet in the pipeline. Early speculation has suggested the Hollywood tablet will have a 10-inch display and BGR exclusively reported in May that it will be powered by NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chipset. Foxconn has not yet confirmed it received the orders from Amazon, but the report matches up with several rumors that suggested the tablet would ship later than initially expected.

Quad-core SoC for being able to read books REALLY fast.

Very good tactics… Allow me to try… Ipad3 will be announced post Christmas. And iphone5 in wwdc. The so hold your buying habit.

I have the FIRE Pre-Ordered.  That’s the ONLY one I’m buying.  Just to play around with until I buy that iPad 3 next year, and later the iPhone 5 as my 2 years will then be up on that.

years in tablet world are centuries….

Yeah, right, iPhone 5 at WWDC. Apple doesn’t release stuff that frequently. The 4S is here to stay for I’d say at least ten months.

I think a 7″ form factor is better since its easier to hold in one hand. I would like to see the Kindle Fire get updated to ICS so it gets tablet app support.

Grand. A cheap Android tablet that takes a year to cook up. Aren’t others poop one out every week?

That’s the problem with this badly-worded headline. He isn’t referring to the First Gen Kindle Fire, which is due out on Nov. 15, 2011.  He is referring to the Second Gen Kindle Fire……

The operative word being ‘poop’. If you want fast & cheap you’re better off @ McDonalds.

Interesting.  My sources tell me they are talking about releasing one in 2013 as well.  I should start a Tech Blog.

Just in time for the end of the world.

I don’t think it’s fair to call this a successor – we’ve known for awhile that a 10-inch tablet was in the offing from Amazon, and it extends that Kindle line rather than supplanting the recently announced Kindle Fire. Personally I still prefer the 7″ form-factor, though I may regret the lack of features when Hollywood comes..

“store shelves?” Is the new Kindle Fire being sold at Target?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Bfm-Magee/100001396842793 Bfm Magee

The 7 inch Kindle fire known as ‘coyote’ should sell at least 5 million units by the end of the year.  The question then becomes…is a 10 inch tablet too large for ereading and will consumers be interested in a larger for factor device if it is locked down like the Kindle Fire? At Kindlefireforums.com they question the value proposition of the larger format tablet suggesting that it might canobilize sales of the 7 inch.

That’s fine if it nets more sales. It’s really only a problem if no new sales come about from it and buyers just get split into the two camps.

I don’t think it will “kill” the Ipad for the true Apple Fanatics, but even they are going to want the smaller size screens…  I’m not sure 7″ is the “perfect” size for all, but I do think that the IPad dimensions require too much balancing to hold effectively for either typing or reading or carrying in a purse. Its great for surfing on the couch or sitting in a meeting at a conferene table.   Smart phones are too small to use for reading books or surfing…

I wouldn’t be here looking at Androids if there was an affordable Ipad solution for me ( because the Kindle Touch 3G had didn’t have true 3G)… I was so disgusted at the Kindle Touch 3G “take away” that I decided I wouldn’t spend money on another Kindle product.

All I REALLY want is an book size e-ink touch pad with 3G and a decent browser so I can check email on the go…

then I started seeing I might have to give up the e-ink but maybe I could justify the color android it by also using it as a GPS (because I need to upgrade my built in Prius 2006 GPS or buy a new handheld GPS). I’d really just prefer e-ink with 3G but that isn’t to be found…. Unless someone here has a solution???
