Dell CEO: Android cannot compete with the iPad on tablets, Windows 8 has best shot

Tablets

Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Inc., said on Tuesday that Android tablets have failed to gain significant traction in a market dominated by Apple’s iPad, and that Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 8 platform has a good chance of achieving better sales. Mirroring the sentiments of countless pundits, Dell says the tablet market today is basically an iPad market, and that Apple’s competitors have failed to offer a compelling alternative at this point. ”If you look at the tablet market, you have to say right now it’s an iPad market,” Dell said while speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit on Tuesday. “The Android stuff has not done fantastically well, I think I’m being fair. Microsoft has a pretty good shot with Windows 8, we’re pretty excited with what they’re doing.” Michael Dell said this past April that sales of Android tablets would overtake iPad sales just as sales of Android smartphones have surpassed the iPhone. The company’s Android-powered Streak tablet has not been a hot seller for the computer maker however, and now it appears as though any future plans for new Android tablets may be put on hold. Recent reports suggest Dell may release is first round of Windows 8 tablets in the third quarter of 2012.

In another words, I’m throwing in the towel.

What Michael Dell is really saying is that Dell can’t design a tablet worth selling. Nothing much else.

As much as I love Android Win 8 on a tablet looks hella slick.  I either want an Asus Transformer or a solid Win 8 tab.

lol, this might just be because the win8 dev beta is way too
premature, but this assumption by Dell CEO, just made me laugh so hard. Android
not able to compete?;  lol, and I’m a
apple guy, so it’s even funnier. Android is THE competitor against iOS and the like. Get
your head out of your ass and get Google’s ice cream sandwich on some decent hardware you shameless fools.

I think the iPhone 4S sold more in one weekend compared to a years worth of Android tablet sales.

If Win8 doesn’t get changed from the piece of shit os I had installed on my laptop, the iPad has nothing to worry about.  Though honestly, the iPad has nothing to worry about anyway.

Anyone who takes Michael Dell’s advice is a moron.  Hindsight is 20/20 as is the advice of Michael Dell.  He should run his company the same way Costanza ran his best day ever.  Ignore your gut MD.  Ignore your gut.

I don’t often agree with Dell, but Android is garbage. And the tablet market has not seen any mainstream interest beyond iPad. And lets face it those Apple fans will buy anything, they’re not right in the head. There is no tablet market yet.

I bought an Android tablet and I never use it. It was a regrettable purchasing decision.

Maybe Mr. Dell should have had a hand in crafting an Android-based device that wasn’t a cheap plastic piece of crap; then he’d be a bit more optimistic.

What else would you expect Dell to say?

Windows is so no where with phones and tabs it’s not even funny. To think that Windows will just grab big share out of no where is the ultimate in arrogance.

I have Galaxy Tab and my sister has iPad and I think Galaxy Tab can do way more than I expected.
The top of all, you can load wmv onto memory card and watch on the Tab. This is TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to do it with iPad without iTunes.

This could actually be good news for Android..and I’m an Apple fan. You see, Michael Dell said something similar about Apple when Steve Jobs returned, when asked what he would do with Apple this was his reply: “I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders”

I believe Steve Jobs has a well know quote published back at Michael Dell: “@%ck Michael Dell”! Considering Apple could buy Dell 2+ times over with it’s cash hoard…I’d say what Michael Dell has to say is pretty unimportant.

Dell is horrible all around. Only people who are non tech savy like Dell. Old grannies and newbies mostly. Our local city and law enforcement all use Dell computers and every single one of them run so slow it’s retarded. We have Dell pc’s at my place of work and none of them have lasted more that a year without some sort of hardware issue. Dell needs to build cheap tablets for 3rd world countries and stick with that. Yeah and still needs to suck big cock that’s all you do is suck big dick

The Samsung Galaxy tab is much better than the ipad.  I actually own and like both products, but there’s no denying that the galaxy provides a better tablet experience in almost every way.

tablets are like bell-bottom pants, just a tech trend. Their usefullness is extremely limited. So who cares.

    LAPTOPS FTW

It should be titled, “Dell Android tablets have failed to gain significant traction in a market dominated by Apple’s iPad”.  Samsung tablets have been doing quite well, to the point where Apple feels threatened enough to bring out lawyers to litigate.
