iPad 3 production starts this quarter according to Susquehanna

Production of Apple’s third-generation iPad is about to get underway according to Susquehanna Financial Group analyst Jeffrey Fidacaro. According to Fidacaro, Apple’s manufacturing partners have orders to build as many as 1 million iPad 3 tablets in the fourth quarter of this year, in line with an earlier note from the analyst’s colleague at Susquehanna, Christopher Caso. “Our checks indicate that iPad 3 has now shown up on AAPL’s production forecast for a late-4Q production start,” Caso wrote in a recent research note. “We believe 0.6 mln-1 mln units are forecasted for 4Q production.” Last week, Ticonderoga Securities analyst Brian White said that Apple will unveil a new entry-level “iPad mini” in the first quarter of 2012. The new tablet will not necessarily be an iPad with a smaller form factor, White’s checks found, but rather a lower price tag likely in the mid to high-$200 range. The analyst said Apple will then release a “feature rich standard-priced iPad 3″ in the second quarter next year.

        First in specs last in everything else. 3d and quad core in a tablet? Seriously? Wow how useful. Lol. Being first doesn’t mean you’re the best. The iPod wasn’t the first digital music player. But it’s the best. The iPad was not the first tablet computer but it’s the best. The Apple I was technically not the first consumer computer, coming out a year before IBM but it’s the best. The iPhone wasn’t the first smartphone. But it’s the best. And if not for the 2007 iPhone you would not have what you have today in any phones. And don’t give me that lg prada or voyager bullsh1t. It’s not even close.

      Also, there already is an iPad mini. It’s called an iPod touch.

        Its the other way around, there’s a super sized iPod touch. Its called an iPad…The iPod touch came out before the iPad…

        Cam… no, you’re wrong there my friend.  If you ran with that mode of thinking in production you’re destined to get left behind.  The iPod Touch is an ultra portable device.  The iPad is a portfolio based (portable)… but there’s no in-between. Your competition has seen that there are via price points.  Now, Apple, on the other hand doesn’t need to follow anyone’s lead… but there is a market there.

      Agree. That’s the reason why people were a little let down by the new iPhone because of sites like this that tell you for months that this person said this and the person said that. Only for the new design not to happen at all. But as we see. That did little for demand for the 4s. As its selling like mad.

    No the iPad 3 production has not started and you know it didn’t. Why would it start now if it doesn’t go on sale till march- April. And it may not even then. And apple will not come out with a “iPad mini” either. You want a iPad mini get a iPod touch. Who wants a 7″ tablet. Or a 5″ phone for that matter.

    I highly doubt this is true. My bet is Apple will wait for the release of the ARM 6 processor which is going to likely be end of 1st quarter, start of 2nd quarter 2012. Same with iPhone 5…

    I’m more than happy with my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (as is the rest of the world based on Apple’s stock right now) so there is no need for an iPad 3 anytime this year. I’m doubtful about the iPad mini ever coming to fruition. 

    These so-called “analysts” are a joke, no one knows what Apple is doing or is going to do but Apple. Everything else is just here-say.

    I highly doubt Apple will release a smaller iPad. If they want to go after the lower priced tablet market, they’ll just start producing the original iPad again, and sell it along side the upcoming iPad 2S and current iPad 2.
